From a young age, Derek has been intrigued by the impact of music on movies and television shows. This curiosity blossomed into a love affair and by the time he hit his teens, he knew music was his calling.
To date Derek has arranged music for regional artistes such as: 黃小琥, 黄义达, 周迅, 陈慧琳, 萧敬腾, 蔡依林, 薛凱琪, 郭采洁, 刘若英, 何耀珊, 赵薇, 插班生, 譚詠麟 and 郭富城 to name a few.

Besides arranging music for the Chinese pop industry, Derek actively composes Television commercial music for brands such as: Mitsubishi, MSN, ESPN, Toshiba and Kirei.
In 2008 Derek composed and scored music for Tsui Hark's 女人不壞. He was the music producer for Nike Human Race in 2009, producing original music by local bands: A Vacant Affair, The Fire Fight and Composition B.
